FIRST NOTE from the WEBMASTER

Simultaneous to the Eye launching this page, Easton Republicans announced that Tom Herrmann will not be running for First Selectman in November. His eleventh hour exit from the ticket (brochures had to be pulled back from the printer) has been explained as a time conflict for Mr. Herrmann. We are asked to believe that a job he took last December gave no hint of presenting a time problem until now. The Eye believes that the story revealed by the Easton legal bills suggests a different scenario. Replacing Tom Herrmann with Adam Dunsby as the Republican Party candidate is simply smoke and mirrors. EASTON NEEDS NEW LEADERSHIP.

Easton Eye will post more information each week, updating each box. Our goal is to provide you with the facts, transparency, humor and a bit of perspective to make an informed decision at the polls in November.

10/3 A NOTE from the WEBMASTER
(see previous notes at the bottom of the page)

This week the Easton Coalition went to court seeking the right to appear on the ballot in the November 5 election. To do that they sued the CT Secretary of State and the Easton Town Clerk. Since our current town clerk, Derek Buckley, is on the Easton Coalition ticket, he recused himself as town clerk and Easton was represented in court by Assistant Town Clerk, Joan Kirk. The Easton Board of Selectmen hired an attorney to represent the Town.

In addition, the Easton Republicans filed as interveners in the case. The Eye is trying to determine if the filing was by Adam Dunsby or by the ERTC. The facts should be correct, but in effect that is a "distinction without a difference" (a little phrase that First Selectman Tom Herrmann seems to be fond of), as Mr. Dunsby is both the ERTC Chair and the Republican candidate for First Selectman.

Even though other third party canidates have been restored to the ballot, the Easton Coalition was denied. They will be write-in candidates.  This was a case where the letter of the law prevailed over the spirit of the law, and we got a first hand look at where the ERTC stands. Adam Dunsby got his nomination by removing the Chair of the ERTC Nominating Committee, taking the nomination with no competition when Tom Herrmann left the ticket, and then going to court to make sure he has no competition on the ballot. These actions speak for themselves, but if you take a few minutes to peruse the EYE, you will find that they are not out of character in the current political regime.

CFE Debate

First Selectman & Selectman Candidates
10/23 A NOTE from the WEBMASTER
(see previous notes at the bottom of the page)

Last week the Easton Lions Club sponsored the first candidate forum for First Selectman candidates Adam Dunsby and Val Buckley.  Approximately 100 people were in attendance. Each candidate made one opening and one closing remark. Questions were submitted in written format and read by moderator, John Harris, long time secretary of the Lions Club. Each candidate was given a minute to answer each question. At this time the EYE will withhold further comment in the hope that each of you will view the debate and evaluate the answers for yourself.
There is a second candidate forum on Monday, October 28 sponsored by Citizens for Easton.
